The project sought to enhance the house's overall contrast and functionality by breaking away from typical uniform room sizes. Key goals included introducing more natural light into the central areas, particularly the staircase and kitchen, and maximizing room sizes while maintaining a high-quality spatial experience. A significant part of the brief involved pushing planning regulations to extend the kitchen space for better usability.

The Brief
The design addressed the lack of daylight by integrating a full-length glass roof over the expanded kitchen, where the family spends most of their time. To bring light into the central staircase, a large roof light was added, allowing natural light to flow down to the ground floor via a glass staircase. Exposed construction details, such as bricks, joists, and floorboards, were intentionally revealed, adding texture and creating a raw yet soft ambience.
Oversized, curvaceous furniture pieces complemented this aesthetic. A double-height void between the first and top floors introduced an unexpected architectural feature, elevating the house’s visual and spatial appeal.
