The project involved remodelling a wedge-shaped, three-floor apartment within the historic Imperial Hall building in Islington to suit a new owner—a bachelor who enjoys cooking. The apartment was originally dark and had a closed-off kitchen, and the client wanted to transform the space to be more open and suitable for entertaining.

The Brief
The design focused on creating an open-plan layout by removing a wall to connect the kitchen to the living area, making it ideal for socializing. To brighten the space, invisible uplighting was added, enhancing the overall ambiance. The apartment’s historical context, within the landmark Imperial Hall building designed in 1904 by JJ Bradshaw & Gass, was preserved, maintaining the integrity of the terracotta structure and its iconic dome, which is protected as a landmark.
