East London Mews, a converted warehouse in one of the last surviving 18th-century laneways within East London’s Conservation Area, was envisioned as a stylish, contemporary home that respects its industrial heritage. The goal was to create a versatile, open-plan, multi-level living space that seamlessly integrates modern comforts while celebrating its historic character. Spanning three floors with outdoor spaces on both the ground and upper levels, the property was designed for both relaxed living and vibrant entertaining.

The Brief
The semi-detached, end-of-row property boasts three-metre-high ceilings and herringbone beams on the ground floor, framing original steel columns that honour its industrial origins. A striking feature is the black and wood staircase with cast iron Aati nosing, originally designed for the London Underground, offering a distinctive historical detail.
Wide black oiled oak floorboards add warmth and texture across the first and second floors, while grey basalt tiles in the kitchens and bathrooms introduce a sleek, functional contrast. This thoughtful approach blends contemporary elegance with authentic industrial elements, resulting in an exceptional warehouse conversion that perfectly balances heritage and modernity.
