Zachary Pulman Design Studio was commissioned to transform a vacant warehouse and former automotive site in Whitechapel, East London. Originally conceived for 12 units, the project presented unique challenges, including its proximity to neighbouring terraced properties, an adjacent car park, and surrounding industrial units.
Despite complexities involving party and boundary walls, the team identified opportunities for expansion within the existing footprint, ultimately securing planning consent to add seven additional units.
Concept Design Details
The Brief
The reimagined concept introduces five terraced houses and six modern apartments, embodying a contemporary interpretation of terraced mews living. Key design features include distinctive fin-like abutments and basement light wells, creating private garden spaces that combine practicality with bold, modern aesthetics.
This approach underscores the studio’s ability to work within site constraints while developing high-demand properties with unique character, each of which was successfully sold off-plan.
