The brief for Swingers Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., was to immerse guests in the charm of the 1920s British seaside, blending playful British themes with nautical details. The objective was to design a 23,000-square-foot entertainment space that enchants visitors with its quirky nod to classic British attractions, including crazy golf courses, a traditional pub, cocktail bars, street food options, multiple lounges, a merchandise shop, and interactive elements like a 3D photo booth.

The Brief

Swingers Navy Yard brings a nostalgic yet modern 1920s British seaside experience to life. At the heart of the venue is “The Swingers Arms” pub, featuring a standout interior façade and a lively faux patio lined with flower boxes and golf-side seating, evoking the feel of an English pub garden. Nautical accents, such as porthole mirrors and rope details in the upstairs “Boathouse Bar,” add to the maritime atmosphere.

The three crazy golf courses—“The Carousel,” “The Spinner,” and “The Meteorite”—are inspired by classic British funfair rides, each with moving miniatures of their namesakes for an added interactive touch. Playful details like a ceiling adorned with message-in-a-bottle-style vessels featuring Swingers’ “S” logo enhance the whimsical aesthetic, while street food stalls, cocktail bars, and a 3D photo booth round out the vibrant, multifaceted entertainment experience.
