Why the Future of Cinema isn’t about the Screen and Recliners.

There was a time when going to the cinema was the experience.

Big screen. Loud sound. Full house. Done.

But in 2025, that’s not enough.
Today, the big screen has competition, and it lives in your living room.
With streaming platforms offering blockbuster premieres, cinemas are facing a choice: evolve, or be edged out.

The best ones? They’re not doubling down on scale. They’re doubling down on experience. From cocktail bars inside screening rooms to gourmet menus and velvet sofas, cinemas are being reimagined as hospitality-first spaces, places where people come to connect, relax, and linger long after the final credits roll.

🎬 Everyman has done this beautifully - designing venues that feel more like lounges than multiplexes. It’s less about the film, more about the full night out.
And then there are the independents, turning their cinemas into community hubs.

Because if you’re not designing for experience, you’re designing for empty seats. We saw this shift coming.

That’s why, when working with HOYTS, one of Australia’s leading cinema groups, we converted half their screens into a competitive socialising venue, "Funderdome".
It’s cinema meets play. Hospitality meets movement. And it’s giving people more reasons to walk through the doors and stay.
