Spotlight: VEKTOR by Christopher Bauder at Kraftwerk Berlin

Today’s inspiration comes from Christopher Bauder’s breathtaking art piece VEKTOR, showcased at Kraftwerk Berlin.

This mesmerising installation fuses the dynamic movement of 50 kinetic lasers with a self-composed three-dimensional soundscape, creating a truly synaesthetic experience.

What makes VEKTOR remarkable is how the lasers move seamlessly in both vertical and horizontal directions, perfectly complementing the vast industrial space of Kraftwerk Berlin. The interplay between scale and projection is masterfully executed, with minimal flat screens adding a contemporary touch without detracting from the immersive atmosphere. Every detail—from the quality of the smoke to the intricately designed audio—has been almost obsessively considered to enhance the experience.

At the heart of this installation are winches developed by Kinetic Lights, enabling ultra-precise movements of the custom-designed futuristic laser pods. The result is a choreography of light that feels almost alive, responding to and shaping the environment around it.

The auditory component is equally impressive. A 30-channel L-Acoustics L-ISA sound system delivers an enveloping soundscape that synchronises flawlessly with the movement of the lasers. Adding a personal touch, Bauder himself composed the evocative soundtrack, ensuring every element of the installation works in harmony.

VEKTOR isn’t just an installation; it’s an unforgettable journey through light, sound, and space—a perfect example of how art can transform and elevate our perception of the world.
