Great design need not cost the earth. With this clever remodel of a three-storey townhouse, Zachary Pulman Design Studio proved that truly inspired interiors can also be cost effective.
The brief for this modern, light filled home was challenging, as it was configured as a narrow, compact space with many rooms and low ceilings. The desired effect was created by removing the internal walls across all floors and installing a lightweight staircase. This increased light throughout the house giving it a greater sense of openness.
A bijou office above the stairs was accessed by a tapering ladder that turns into a sleek minimalist desk. To further increase the volume and light, the floor joists were exposed, and metal-framed glass walls were used as partitions in the living areas to separate the kitchen from stairs.
